In this hands-on session, based on the “Build-a-Bear” workshop concept, participants will learn how visual management can help answer these questions as we discuss the keys to setting up a visual.

Discover how focused objectives can help a team achieve their goals or solve more complex problems. Learn the difference between a mission statement, goal, focused objective and an idea. Participate in class exercises of identifying focused objectives.
Building upon the skills taught in Selecting & Simplifying Meaningful Metrics, in this hands-on session, participants will learn to turn goals and metrics into visuals that will allow their team to see the “gap” between where they are and where they want to be. Using real-life examples from UW teams, participants will create visuals which support team-based problem solving and enable teams to see the impact of their ideas and the progress they are making toward their goals.
The introductory class in our Standard Follow Up series, review the keys to maximizing engagement and how to align engaged team members using daily, weekly and monthly huddles. Learn the details and purpose behind the different huddles and discover ideal behaviors and expectations. Best practices and examples from UW teams will be used and discussed.
In the final session in the Visual Management Series, discover how visuals can be used to help facilitate the flow of huddles and encourage team member participation. Learn elements of visual management that can help teams get the most out of huddles and identify opportunities you can take back to your team to improve the flow of your huddle.
Building upon the course “Running Effective Huddles”, learn how results, and how to share them, can help your team see and own their gaps, share knowledge and success, and understand the impact and outcomes of Daily Kaizen. Using lessons from the book Own the Gap and examples from teams throughout the UW, uncover the power of results to drive and celebrate change.
The final session in this series, learn more about a key component to Standard Follow-Up—escalation. Find out how effective escalation systems can help teams break through barriers, set triggers and responses, and win more often. Examples from UW lean teams will help illustrate how teams can use escalation to maintain momentum and engage leaders in their success.
Learn the keys to a successful idea system and the common reasons idea systems fail. Review the process for generating, prioritizing, implementing and celebrating ideas with examples from a number of UW Lean teams.
In order to fully engage teams, team members must connect with both the purpose that provides direction (the why) behind what they are asked to do and the purpose that connects the work they do to something bigger. In this session, we will share examples of how teams from across UW are connecting teams to purpose and help attendees identify opportunities in their work areas.
Coaching is a vital role of a leader in a management system that aims to create a culture of daily team-based problem solving. But what is coaching and how might that be different from the way I currently lead my team? Why do we coach? What are the keys to great coaching? In this session, we will begin to answer these questions and discuss the role coaching plays in, not only engaging, but bringing the best out of every team member.
We spend a lot of our life at work—so let’s have some fun along the way! In this session, we will discuss the keys to focused fun and share examples from UW teams. Attendees will have the opportunity to identify processes in their area that could be more engaging and benefit from the addition of some fun as well as learn how to get started introducing this concept to their team.
In the second course of the Daily Kaizen Series, gain an understanding in solving complex problems that lead to impacting results. Discussion of different problem solving tools and how to measure the impact of results at the team level.
In the final course of the Daily Kaizen Series, gain an understanding of the “why” or importance of recognizing ideal behaviors. Discussion of the keys to recognizing ideal behaviors with examples from a number of UW Lean teams.
